Create, Commission, Collect

Why do we create art? Why is art commissioned? And why do museums collect some art and not others? This new exhibition explores those questions!

The artworks in this room represent the creativity of Carmarthenshire. Through them, we can explore the reasons why we create art, why people commission art, and the story of the Museum's art collection.

Each work tells its own unique story—ranging from forgotten female artists to Welsh mythology, saints, and everyday life.

This room was once the Bishop's Dining Room. Following a fire in 1903, the building was reconstructed and decorated in the Arts and Crafts style, drawing inspiration from the Gothic Revival. Furniture reflecting this style is on display.
