Be inspired in the Discovery Gallery

Carmarthenshire Museum’s new Discovery Gallery is a cosy corner of the museum where you can get up close to interesting objects, specially chosen to spark your curiosity and start conversations. Here, we hope you will find something that makes you wonder, ask questions, and feel inspired.

The 'Wild Carmarthenshire' wall offers you the chance to see wildlife from the county’s coastlines, fields, mountains, and woodlands. From familiar sights like badgers and foxes to rare species such as red squirrels and kingfishers, the display reminds us of the importance of maintaining Carmarthenshire’s biodiversity.

'Cabinets of Curiosity' at the heart of the gallery house a wide range of objects from all over the world. Open the drawers to discover the connection between a Japanese fan and a coracle. See a cast of one of the most famous dinosaur fossils ever found. Or imagine life behind the Iron Curtain as you look at a piece of the Berlin Wall.

If you really want to get hands-on, head to our exploration station, where you can investigate, create, and discover more about the museum’s amazing stories. Try your hand at a fun craft, handle real and replica objects, or take on a challenge inspired by our exhibitions. There is always something new to explore – so roll up your sleeves and start discovering!
