The Old Kitchen
Yr Hen Gegin (the Old Kitchen) is one of the original rooms of the Old Bishops Palace of St David's.

Much of the Old Bishop's Palace was transformed into modern exhibition spaces after it became the county museum. However, the Old Kitchen has changed little since the days when the Bishops lived here.
The Old Kitchen looks much as it might have done around 1930. The room has served as a kitchen for centuries—certainly since before 1715. Its unusually high ceiling may have helped to clear away smoke or assisted the turning mechanism used for roasting meat. Over the years, new cooking ranges were added without removing the old ones, which is why two have survived to this day. The large green dresser is an original piece of furniture that was here before the building became a museum.
The door at the back of the room leads to the Back Kitchen. Although it is not currently open to visitors, we aim to open this area in the future. You can view the exterior of the back kitchen through the windows from the terrace behind Stacey's Kitchen.
The space outside the door at the side of the room was once the Servants' Hall. By the 1930s, as fewer servants worked at the Palace, it had become a store for plate and silverware. It now leads to the CofGâr team offices!
