BABS Centenary Celebration
BABS returned to Pendine Sands in spring 2026, bringing a century of speed and storytelling back to the beach where history was made.

On Monday 27 April 2026, the legendary land speed record car marked 100 years since J.G. Parry‑Thomas set his world‑beating record on Pendine Sands in 1926.
Visitors saw BABS complete two demonstration runs along the community‑owned stretch of Pendine beach.
This centenary was a celebration of Pendine’s unique place in engineering and motorsport history. But it was also a moment to look forward. The Museum of Land Speed launched its new Project Lab on the same day. This marked the start of an exciting journey to create a permanent exhibition space that shares more of Pendine’s story and opens the collection up to more people. Local communities and supporters will play an important part in shaping what comes next.
The centenary event was organised by the BABS Trust, working with Pendine Community Council, the National Motor Museum of Wales and Geraint Owen, who cares for and maintains this remarkable vehicle.
