Science of the Sands

Why is the beach at Pendine so special? Why did racing drivers first come to this spot to make land speed history? This display answers these questions and more.

Here, you’ll find out how Pendine Sands maintains such a smooth surface and stops vehicles from sinking beneath the beach. You’ll also find out why roads at the time weren’t suitable for land speed record attempts. You’ll even get the chance to see the sand up close and discover how it was made.

Come and see this display first if you want to be inspired by the science of small things and how they have such a big impact on world history.
