About Parc Howard Museum
Our Story
Parc Howard Museum was founded a few years after Carmarthenshire Museum in 1912. Sir Stafford Howard and Lady Catherine Stepney leased their newly acquired Victorian mansion to Llanelli Borough Council as a museum, gallery, and reading rooms. Lady Stepney gifted much of the original collection that included artworks, furniture, and the locally made Llanelly Pottery.
The Borough Council bought the museum and park in 1965 and managed it until local government reorganisation in 1996. The revived Carmarthenshire County Council took over the running of the museum from then on.
Since 2017, Carmarthenshire County Council and Llanelli Town Council have collaborated to enhance Parc Howard's development and sustainability, which resulted in a complete renewal of the museum between 2021 and 2024. The reimagined museum now promotes Llanelli’s legacy of creativity, discovery, and entrepreneurship through family-friendly and interactive exhibits that also recognise the town’s global links.
