The Park

A woman and three small children walk side by side on a path through autumnal trees. All are wearing warm coats and smiling

No matter what time of year you visit, there will always be a splash of colour for you to enjoy. In spring, magnolia and cherry blossom offer spectacular displays at the front of the Museum, almost overshadowing the bold yellows and oranges of the many daffodils that welcome the lead up to Dydd Gŵyl Dewi (St David’s Day). Summer brings out the seas of fabulous flower beds that surround the Museum, with vibrant reds, pinks, blues, and yellows bathing the park in a kaleidoscope of colour. Even in autumn, the many Japanese maples dotted amongst native trees bring warm reds and oranges to a traditionally colder season, easing the transition to winter.

One of the best places to enjoy this ever-changing landscape is on the terrace outside the Museum entrance. Grab a hot or cold drink from the gift shop, and maybe even a snack or ice cream, and relax on the picnic tables overlooking the formal gardens. Alternatively, get out your blanket and spread out on the expanse of grass to the side of the Museum, where dozens of local families love to soak up the afternoon sunshine in the summer.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, why not take advantage of the children’s play area or the tennis courts, free to use for anyone wanting a bit more activity and exercise.
