Dylan Thomas Boathouse | Thu-Mon, 10am-5pm

Schools and education groups at the Boathouse

Hands holding handmade willow fish and star-shaped woven decorations against a coastal backdrop, with estuary waters and shoreline visible in the distance.

At one time, the house was a family home for Dylan, Caitlin, and their three children. It was a place filled with fun, laughter, and creativity.

Our aim is to make every visit to the house special. Whether you wish to enjoy an independent experience or take advantage of our guided workshops, we offer a range of ways to engage with the life and work of Dylan Thomas. And don't forget to register your school or educational group with our membership scheme to access even more ways to get the most out of your visit, including unlimited loan boxes and a bag of small gifts from our gift shop!

Please see the options below for further information.

Groups that cancel after 10am on the day before the booking, and groups that miss their session, must still pay the full price of the session.

Access and additional learning needs

  • There are only steps at the entrance to the Dylan Thomas Boathouse, and it is not suitable for wheelchair users. Forty steps lead down from the entrance gate, which adjoins the Wales Coast Path.
  • Once inside the house, there are a further 10 steps down to the tea room and 10 steps up to the upper floor.
  • There is no accessible toilet on site, but there are two toilets accessible from outside the tea room via the steps leading down to the house.

Quiet areas and rest spaces can be provided during your visit, and a member of staff can direct you to them upon arrival. Noise levels in the galleries can be adjusted according to visitors' needs.

Please see our 'Accessibility at the Boathouse' page for further information.

Safeguarding

Send an email to cofgar@carmarthenshire.gov.uk to request a copy of CofGâr’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Procedures.

Preview visits

School staff and educational group leaders are welcome to visit in advance to prepare for their trip. This can be done at any time.

These preliminary visits can be self-guided, or you can request assistance from a member of the CofGâr team. Please let us know in advance by phone or email if you would like to arrange a preliminary visit to the site.

Preliminary visits are useful for familiarising yourself with the site, conducting risk assessments, planning logistics, and ensuring that the exhibitions align with learning objectives. For these reasons, such a visit is recommended, although it is not mandatory.
