Dylan Thomas Boathouse | Thu-Mon, 10am-5pm
Lower Floor

Y Gegin Cartref

Y Gegin Cartref (the Boathouse Kitchen) serves visitors a range of home baked goods and refreshments from the original kitchen of the house. Take a peek inside and you’ll spot the original sink under the window facing the terrace – still very much in use!

Two halves of a scone on a plate. The scones are topped with jam and clotted cream.

Many visitors are lucky enough to be greeted with the aroma of freshly baked bread and Welshcakes as soon as they walk through the front door.

The rustic setting of the tearoom was once the Thomas family living room. Although cool in summer, the fireplace would have been much needed in winter.

Nestled in one corner of the room is a charming model of how the Boathouse looked during Dylan’s time here. One major difference is that a boat shed on stilts, dating from around 1910, overlooked the terrace at the rear of the building. The model was produced by the set designer of the film ‘Poet in New York’ and donated to the museum once filming was completed.
