The CofGâr Collection

The CofGâr collections hold more than 50,000 years of Carmarthenshire’s history, from the last Ice Age to today.

From mammoth teeth to motorbikes, and lovespoons to Llanelly Pottery, the collection represents all of Carmarthenshire and beyond.

But caring for so many objects means we can’t show them all. So sometimes we’ll change displays and give others a rest.

If you have a favourite object you’d like to see, please get in touch with us before you visit to make sure it’s on display.

Vibrant Victorians

It’s easy to think that life during the 1800s was dreary and dull from the stern faces that stare back at us from black and white photos. However, it was full of bright colours!

If you like objects with stories to tell, don’t miss this impressive standing stone at Carmarthenshire Museum. It’s unusually large, beautifully carved, and it carries messages in two different writing systems.

Smashing Boundaries

The Smashing Boundaries project is a Sporting Heritage initiative dedicated to shining a spotlight on the incredible achievements of women in sports from Carmarthenshire, past and present.
